Chartered expects 20% growth in 1998

Article Abstract:

Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing president and CEO Barry Waite projects that the firm's silicon foundry revenues will improve by 20% in 1998. The Singapore-based firm, which offers wafer manufacturing processes for various semiconductor technologies, is approximated to have posted some $405 million in overall revenues in 1997, up 13% from 1996. Waite cites various favorable factors, including an expanding operations in Europe, positive business in the US and an emerging presence in Japan.

Panel focuses on copper transition

Article Abstract:

The transition to copper technology in chip manufacturing is projected to face issues that include cost of ownership, contamination, performance, reliability, yield, defectivity and deposition. These issues were addressed by a panel of industry experts organized by Cabot Corp for the CMP-MIC Conference in Santa Clara, CA. The group stated that the top advantage of the manufacturing technology is lower total cost of ownership.
