The evils of the military-industrial complex

Article Abstract:

The merger of Lockheed-Martin and Loral Corp has prompted questions from reporters about whether this is good for the country. Paranoia about a US 'military-industrial complex' is unfounded. The defense industry is expected to continue to consolidate but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Often overlooked is the fact that technology is advancing at a very fast rate and this development is often enhanced by mergers between companies.

New optical drive makes technological breakthroughs

Article Abstract:

The PD2000e rewritable optical and 4x CD-ROM data storage and retrieval subsystem, developed by Plasmon Data and Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd, combines the advantages of both a high-capacity phase-change rewritable optical storage system and a high-speed CD-ROM system. The subsystem is designed for several uses, including system backup archiving and high-security storage.
