Consumer Reports: LCD and plasmas need few repairs

Article Abstract:

The new brand repair rate report of Consumer Reports revealed that LCD and plasma TVs require few repairs during the first three years of use. The report suggested avoiding extended warranties, which is unnecessary for such highly reliable products. Other points and suggestions presented in the report on the quality of plasma and LCD TV units are discussed.

New Consumer Survey Shows More Owners Than Expected

Article Abstract:

Of the 146 million installed telephones, seventy-six million are owned and seventy million are leased. Fifty-five percent of all homes own at least one phone. AT&T has thirty-four percent of the market. An owned versus leased by location chart is included.

New capacity survey

A survey of new power plants under construction or in planning is presented. Besides showing trends in the US for new capacity planning, the survey highlights the problem of replacements for the large central stations which supply 40% of domestic users.
