Article Abstract:

Allied Stores Marketing Corporation's program to increase consumer electronics sales by upgrading the line has been very successful. Allied's sales increased 14.3 percent to $3.7 billion in 1983. Allied senior VP Jack Reeves believes that there is a trend in consumer electronics retailing toward better, more expensive merchandise. He believes that consumer electronics retailing is seeing the greatest growth in department stores. His relationships with the manufacturers of consumer electronics are among the best he has with any industry.

VCR Hardware Suppliers: Wooing First Time VCR Buyers with Big Name Recognition

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers of VCR hardware believe they can be a strong factor in the tape market. More than fifty per cent of first time videocassette recorder purchasers leave the store without any blank tape. Sony is redesigning its tape packaging. JVC, Canon and Quasar are increasing advertising for their brand name tapes. Some manufacturers believe that the companies that manufacture their own tapes will be the ones that survive a shakeout.
