An increasing number of electric utilities in the US are underscoring the adoption of arc-resistant switchgear as customers clamor for safer and more efficient power distribution services. These devices are specially designed to prevent rupture of electrical enclosures in the event of explosions.

IBM's call-center solutions can be of substantial benefit to electric utilities which must provide fast response to customer telephone calls to retain their competitive edge in the face of deregulation. Call centers also improve productivity by freeing personnel from answering complex calls.
