First VHS Hi-Fi Models Signal New VHS-Beta Battle

Article Abstract:

VHS suppliers are following the Beta lead and introducing high quality VHS Hi-Fi models. For the remainder of 1984, prices will be high for these products and shipments should be slow. Among suppliers of VHS Hi-Fi are RCA, JVC, Akai, Jensen, Sharp, Zenith, and others. Reaction to first shipments have been very positive. VHS Hi-Fi offers frequency response from 20Hz to 20 kHz, dynamic range better than 80 dB and flutter of less than 0.005 percent.

Theme of the Month Keys Embassy 1984 Battle Plans

Embassy Home Entertainment is attempting to encourage broader sales of prerecorded video with a monthly series of theme releases. The company has acquired potential Oscar winner Silkwood. In April the company is introducing Welcome Home Ingmar Bergman, the first of nine theme packages. Other themes include Out of This World, Take a Reel Man Home, Embassy Salutes the Films of 12 nations, and Mind Moving Movies.
