Fujitsu ten prepares for future of car multimedia

Article Abstract:

Fujitsu Ten Limited is boosting its research and development initiatives in the car audio-video (A/V) and communications equipment categories, while increasing investments as it seeks to broaden both software and hardware businesses for the OEM and aftermarket. In the year ending March 1998, the company increased its investments by 9.7% to Y12.8 billion, while its sales for A/V equipment increased by 24% to Y18 billion, and its sales of A/V navigation products rose to Y8 billion. In the succeeding year, the company plans to invest Y12 billion more, while increasing sales of mobile communications equipment by 50%, to Y3.3 billion.

Cellular phone popularity spurs GaAs shipments

Article Abstract:

A report from the Japan Manufacturers Society of Compound Semiconductor Materials revealed a 20% increase in shipments of gallium-arsenide (GaAs) semiconductor materials between Apr and Sep 1998. However, shipments of gallium-phosphorous materials dropped sharply during the same period, according to the report. The increase in the demand for GaAs materials is attributed to the growing cellular telephone market.
