Highland Hijinks: NATM Giant Gallops into Dallas - Market Shoot-Out Under Way

Article Abstract:

In less than two years Highland Appliances, a member of the NATM organization, has grown from one to five stores in Dallas and captured at least fifteen per cent of that consumer electronics market. Ira Modry, Highland executive VP, says that they have stimulated the market with their aggressive advertising. Other retailers believe that Highland has taken a great deal away from their business. Highland has plans to open two more stores in Dallas in 1984.

NATM in '83: Brown Goods Gains Power Sales to $1.5 Billion - Capehart Climbing

Article Abstract:

NATM is the largest contract buyer of consumer electronics in the country. The 500 store chain also has the fastest growing private label line. NATM reported $1.5 billion sales for brown and white goods in 1983. NATM's color TV sales were up 56.4 per cent to 1.1 million units. Their VCR sales increased 130 per cent to 297,000 units. NATM's market share in its territory was 16.1 per cent.

Wal-Mart Marches On: Treats Brown Goods As Pure Profit Center

Article Abstract:

Wal Mart has become the fastest growing discount chain store in the country. The company may be planning to go national. Apparel, fabrics and crafts sales are growing the fastest but consumer electronics products also contribute strongly to profits. Wal-Mart's sales for the first half of 1984 reached $2.7 billion. Store count is expected to pass 750 by the end of the year.
