Increase in Japan's output of industrial electronics seen

Article Abstract:

Japan's production of electronic equipment for industrial use in 2001 is expected to increase 3.7% to 12.50 trillion yen. The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Assn expects production of personal Handy Phone System telephones to remain steady with the introduction of new products featuring 128 Kbps data transmission capabilities and advanced positioning systems. Personal computers will remain the main product category in the industry, along with information technology equipment such as cellular phones and electronic measurement equipment.

Demand for industrial, electronics to grow in FY2004

Article Abstract:

The Electronic Industries Assn of Japan expects the total value of domestic market and foreign demand for industrial and commercial electronic equipment to hit 17.3 trillion yen in FY2004. The digital broadcasting, the start-up of electronic traffic guidance systems and the further spread of mobile communication will create a value of 2.5 trillion yen for the radio communication equipment category with an average annual growth rate of 3.6%.

Revamp at Hitachi streamlines board, redefines jobs

Article Abstract:

Hitachi Ltd of Japan has reduced the number of its board of directors from 30 to 14 and redefined job responsibilities of it top executives in Apr 1999. The move is part of the corporate reorganization designed to improve the company's global competitiveness. The reorganization includes dividing the company into 10 business groups, with each group having their own president and CEO, essentially making them independent companies.
