Makers respond to Forum's standards for 4.7GB DVD-RAMs

Article Abstract:

Hitachi, Matsushita Electric and Toshiba have developed DVD record-and- playback technology that allows for the recording of MPEG-2 moving images for two hours on a single-sided DVD-RAM disk at an average speed of 5Mbps. On the other hand, Pioneer Corp has unveiled a digital recorder that uses the DVD-RW format for recording on a 12cm disk with a 4.7GB capacity. The recorder provides two hours of playing time in the standard mode and up to six hours on the manual mode.

Portable Panasonic-brand DVD player works with various formats

Article Abstract:

The DVD-L50 portable DVD player is one of Matsushita's smallest DVD model, weighing a mere 940 grams with batteries. Sold under the Panasonic brand, the DVD-L50 features a 5-in LCD monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio for wide- screen images. It also offers superior digital audio production and a built-in digital optical output terminal for reproduction of Digital Theater System digital sound. It also works with a Video CD software and can also function as a CD player.

Navigation, 2x speed set hitachi's DVD player on smooth path

Article Abstract:

Hitachi Ltd is introducing a first of its kind DVD-Video player that incorporates a 2x speed drive. Dubbed as DV-K2 DVD-video player, it comes with a twin-laser, twin-lens optical pickup traditionally used in the external storage devices of personal computers. Developed from the company's own technologies, it features a Disc Navi function that allows onscreen display of still images and an IP search function for smoother and more comfortable playback performance.
