Thin all over, Toshiba's DVD optical pickup faces fat prospects

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp has recently developed an ultra-thin optical pickup for DVD players. Called TPU1010, it features miniature dimensions to fit properly in a disc jacket and into DVD-ROM drives that are just 17 mm thick. It has a 2x DVD playback and 20x CD playback capabilities that utilizes the CAV mode. Introduced in the market in Aug 1997, TPU1010 is compatible with DVDs, CDs, one-time recordable CDs and rewritable CDs.
