Demand grows fopr large-capacity removable discs, drives

Article Abstract:

The worldwide demand for large-capacity removable discs and drives is projected to grow rapidly. The uptrend is attributed to the development of the multimedia environment and explosive growth of the Internet, which boosted the use of the fined-definition images and moving images. Consumers can select from a wide range of standards and systems that have been adopted for large-capacity removable discs and drives. These include large-capacity Zip divscs and Superdiscs, 3.5-in magneto-optical discs, recordable CDs, rewritable CDs, PD systems and DVD-RAMs.

Turbo LE 3.5-inch MO drives

Article Abstract:

Olympus Optical Company Ltd of Japan has introduced a new magneto-optical (MO) drive in 1999. The new Turbo LE 3.5-in MO drive features a 3.1 MB/sec maximum continuous data transfer capability and can attain 3,600 rpm with a 27 mm/sec seek time. It can easily be set up and employs a miniature optical head that uses the company's SFP pickup. The standard Turbo LE model sells for $517.
