With mid-range, low-end, portable models, Pioneer extends DVD lineup

Article Abstract:

Japan-based Pioneer Electronic Corp has shifted its digital video disc (DVD) product marketing strategy from an exclusive focus on high-end DVD players to a mix of mid-range, low-end and high-end models. It has also introduced two portable DVD models in Japan, namely, the PDV-LC10 with seven-inch wide screen thin-film transistor liquid crystal display and the PDV-10, which has no monitor. Both models are compatible with Dolby Digital and Digital Theater System. It also preparing portable DVD models for overseas markets.

CDR-1000- CD, CD-RW consoles

Article Abstract:

Nippon Columbia Company Ltd has developed the CDR-1000 console for CDs and rewritable CDs. It uses high-fidelity audio technology that allows it to digitally record music signals for playback in superior audio quality. top precision and fine sound quality is ensured by a 24-bit digital-analog converter. It features synchronized recording which ensures that the recording starts as soon as the system starts to output music signals. The product sells for 79,800 yen.

Matsushita targets large MD share with tiny version

Article Abstract:

Japan-based Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd hopes to capture 30% of the market for portable MiniDisc (MD) recorders with its SJ-MR100 model. This model is the smallest portable MD recorder manufactured thus far by the company. It measures 18.9 mm in depth X 84 mm in width X 77 mm in height and weighs roughly 136 gm net or 161 gm with the rechargeable battery. It offers one of the longest operation periods of 25 hours and sells for 46,000 yen.
