Akrion CEO revisits trek out of corporate oblivion

Article Abstract:

Akrion Inc CEO David J. Ferran created the company from the ashes of Submicron Systems Corp. Unable to save Submicron from insolvency, Ferran, who was CEO of Submicron, engineered a management-led buyout of the semiconductor production equipment manufacturer. Ferran said the company's management and employees have learned from Submicron's mistakes and are now in a position to take the company on a higher plane.

Mask transfer system aids inspection, reduces damage

Article Abstract:

QC Optics of Wilmington, MA, has developed a photomask transfer system that results in reduced breakage and diminished contamination. The system features a twin cassette load station that allows it to take a plate from one stepper box and load it into a different stepper box. It is designed to reduce the handling of the reticles to a minimum, eliminating human contact with the photomask.

SVG chairman/CEO discusses industry health, trends

Article Abstract:

Silicon Valley Group Inc Chairman and CEO Papken S Der Torossian believes that the crisis hounding the semiconductor industry will last for about six quarters. Torossian said the main cause of the current slowdown in the semiconductor industry is the economic crisis battering Asia, which is viewed by most US and European industry as a main growth driver. Industry cycles, including DRAM overproduction, worsened the crisis affecting the semiconductor and equipment industries, Torossian added.
