Dedicated fabs reinvent industry

Article Abstract:

The emergence of semiconductor foundries has radically changed production management of traditional vertical semiconductor manufacturers. The latter has learned to rely on the services of the former for tasks that include wafer development and integrated circuit production, which allowed them to concentrate on the manufacture of their core products. The significant growth rate of foundries is also attributed to their access to first-grade equipment capable of handling the latest and even, next generation process technologies.
