Article Abstract:

The development of the international standard for personal communication services (PCS) equipment that can handle large-file, wireless, audio/video applications was the focus of PCS '98 in Oct 1998. Some of the products unveiled at the trade show include the D127 infrared modem from Ericsson, the HP CapShare 910 'scanner' from Hewlett Packard and the pdQ smartphone from Qualcomm. Other PCS equipment shown include the PCX-1000 phone from Audiovox and the World 719 phone from Bosch Telecom.

Tweeter's grand experiment

Article Abstract:

New England Audio Company Inc, the consumer electronics and music store chain that is also known as Tweeter, etc, opened its on-line store on outpost.com in early Nov 1999. Shortly afer the site launch, the company reported significantly increased sales, boosted by the popularity of its audio/visual receivers. The store chain intends to convince all its vendors to sell their products on-line so that the group will carry the same mix of products in stores and on the Internet.

At Percy's: tenacity, innovation

Article Abstract:

Percy's is a 70-year old retailer offering appliances, computers, consumer audio and video equipment. The Worchester, MA-based operation is managed by brothers David and Alan Lavine, who represent the third generation to run the store after their grandfather and Percy's founder Percy Lavine. The company is noted for its good sales deals for mid- to high-end products and exceptional customer service.
