NYPA/Entergy outsourcing deal: a cure for nuclear power's economic malaise

Article Abstract:

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Entergy Corp. have received the 1996 James H McGraw Award for using outsourcing to improve the economic viability of nuclear power. The NYPA has tasked Entergy to handle the former's two nuclear units.

Article Abstract:

Consolidation of the nuclear facilities of Entergy Corp were begun in 1990 in an effort to reduce costs, increase output and improve performance. Entergy Operations was formed to hold all the nuclear operations in a single subsidiary.

Gulf States and Entergy applied for regulatory approval for their proposed merger in Jun 1992. The merger will create a stronger, more effective electric utility. GSU has recovered from financial problems.
