Article Abstract:

President Clinton's decision to send US troops to Bosnia has renewed the focus on questions concerning how and why US forces are deployed. The Pentagon's senior leaders will support Clinton, but they are troubled by the Bosnia mission's lack of clear definition. Advanced technologies for command and control, targeting, perimeter security, and night vision will be key to the NATO Bosnia force's success.

New imaging technology helps soldiers survive on the battlefield

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Army is using new imaging technology to enhance the chances of soldier survival during full combat or low-level conflicts. TAAS-Israel Industries Ltd's Active ARmor Protection Against Anti-Tank Guided Missiles includes early warning and detection imaging devices. TAAS' Propack protects forward area headquarters and logistic sites through an integrated system that also uses imaging devices.

The state of the defense electronics industrial base

Article Abstract:

Many dire predictions about the state of the US' electronics industrial base emerged during the 1980s, but those predictions have not proved accurate. By 1993 the US had regained its position as the world's leading producer of merchant semiconductors. In the defense electronics segment, supplier-base consolidation and contraction have dissipated concerns about entry barriers.
