Pioneer forges ahead as new market sectors open for DVDs

Pioneer Electronic Corp has launched eight products in Japan between Sep and Oct 1998 as part of its strategy to cover the demands of a wider range of conmsumers. Among these were the Elite-brand DV-05 THX model, the DVL- 919 Laser-disc compatible model, the DVL-919E and the DVL-K88. The company has also introduced th DV-K101 with a karaoke function and the DV-S5. Pioneer produces aronund 40,000-50,000 units of DVDs in Japan each month.

DVD-Audio player accommodates SACDs

Article Abstract:

Pioneer/Technologies Group Inc has introduced the DV-AX10 universal DVD Audio-Video player that accommodates both DVD discs and Super Audio CDs. The machine, one of the first DVDs to be fully compatible, retails for 500,000 yen ($4,902). Pioneer, the second manufacturer to offer a DVD- Audio-compatible player following Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd, has also released the DV-S10A for 200,000 yen ($1,961).
