Nippon Precision Circuits Inc has introduced the SM8144BV driver IC which can work in small electroluminescent (EL) panels. It requires a 100mA maximum current during 3V operation. The SM8144BV can drive 30sq cm to 40 sq cm EL panels in personal digital assistants, handheld computers and other portable information terminals. The lighting of EL devices is controlled by an Enable function without affecting the power supply. The product sells for $3.

UE155 USB digital audio processors

Onkyo Corp has unveiled the UE155 Universal Serial Bus digital audio processor that can be linked to a personal computer through a single USB cable. The UE155 converts signal from digital to analog, and comes with terminals for analog input and output, and optical and coaxial digital input and output. The product is supported by the CarryOn, DigiOn Sound Light and PeekLE software. It has a retail price of 25,000 yen, or $234.

Rohm's BH1414K wireless audio link integrated circuit (IC), equipped with an audio filter and a volume control has made its market debut. The IC features transmission frequencies from 75 to 110MHz, 45dB channel separation, a 0.1% total high harmonic rate and a 87dbuV transmission output level. It is also capable of performing transmission output settings.
