Submarine cable must withstand much more than saltwater

Article Abstract:

Submarine cables need to overcome damages caused by corrosion, salt-water and stray voltage. The most notable source of stray currents is found to be electric trains. A cathodic protection system that does not have direct contact with the submarine cable may help prevent corrosion.

Portable test set eases insulation testing

Article Abstract:

The Model CB-100 low-voltage capacitance and insulation power-factor test set is adopted by Manitoba Hydro for the measurement of electrical insulation properties. The 14-lb test also results in increased organizational flexibility at around one-sixth of the cost of the 10-kV unit.
