COgeneration left behind in the UK's "dash for gas"

Article Abstract:

CHP capacity in the UK is currently 3,000MW, twice as much as it was in 1988 and accounting now for around 3.7% of the UK's generating capacity. The UK government hopes to raise this to 15% by the year 2010. 40 more schemes are being added to the 1,300 CHP schemes already up and running in the UK. Uptake of CHP is far higher in Europe, especially in Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands where around 30% of energy comes from CHP plants. The overall EU average is about 10%, with the aim of 18% by the year 2010.

Rockwell's UK drives business is already worth around GB 20mn and the company is put at number two in the global market around 1% behind Mitsubishi which has taken over the leading position from ABB.
