Video specs for DVDs pave way for DVD cameras, recorders

Article Abstract:

The same optical disc technology standards used in DVDs are expected to be applied in the development of DVD recorders and DVD cameras. The DVD Forum, the group that sets the standards used in DVDs, has already released specifications for recordable DVDs. The application of optical disc technology, which offer random access capability as well as the ability to handle still pictures, are qdeemed to be important aspects of future DVD camera and recorder designs.

Adapting to recent trends, Sony rethinks media tactics

Article Abstract:

Sony has raised its monthly output of MiniDiscs (MDs) to 5 million units as it prepares to recapture its former 50% share of the MD market. The company has also released its Lumina series of MDs, which feature pastel colors, and are intended for the youth market. Its S Line of MDs with 140 MB storage capacity was introduced in Jun 1998. Most of 3.5-inch MDs are destined for the Japanese market while 5.25-inch discs are sold overseas.

BD, HD, DVD battle it out for top spot in optical disc field

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis is done on the two new technologies blu-ray disc and high-definition disc, which are the latest formats in the optical discs. Both technologies were displayed in the trade show CEATEC 2004 held in Japan.
