What's next in wireless? Waiting for 3G

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers have launched wireless communication equipment with improved performance features in 1999. These include Sanyo Fisher's SCP-4000 dual- band, Internet-ready Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) handset, NEC's 3G Wideband-CDMA mobile videophone and Cobra's MicroTalk FRS-115 two-way radio with AM/FM stereo. Smart Design also launched its thumbscript-enabled two-way pager while Kenwood Communication's FreeTalk FRS radios premiered in the market.

The MP3 explosion

Several consumer electronics manufacturers have introduced their respective portable digital MP3 players in response to the growing popularity of websites allowing the downloading of MP3 music. Some of these companies are Diamond Multimedia, Creative Labs, Audiovox, LG Electronics, Philips and Sony. RCA, Varovisions and Sphere Multimedia Technologies also launched their portable MP3 players.

Notebooks power up with speed and performance

Article Abstract:

Notebook computers with more power and performance features were introduced by manufacturers in 1999. These include Compaq's Presario 1800T, Fujitsu's C Series C5230, Sony's PCG-XG9 VAIO notebook computer and Acer America's Travelmate 340 notebook. Toshiba also launched its Satellite 2655X notebook computer while Hewlett Packard introduced its HP Jornada 690 handheld computer.
