Electrical Current and Carrier Density in Degenerate Materials with Nonuniform Band Structure

Article Abstract:

The theory of electron and hole motion and density in solids with position-dependent band structure including materials with graded compostion is studied. Convential equations are presented for expression of the flow and conservation of electrons and holes. The validity and meaning of a nonuniform band structure is examined. The general energy-band diagram relating the electrostatic potential, the electron affinity, and the bandgap is given. Also given are expressions for current density from the Boltzmann equation and expressions for the nonequilibrium carrier densities. Generalized drift and diffusion are derived.

Current Developments in Loran-C

Article Abstract:

Low-frequency Loran-C radio navigation has grown recently. This is partly due to integrated circuit and microprocessor application to the design and operation of Loran-C user equipment. A background of the system operation and coverage is given and design of receiver equipment is explained. Applications of Loran-C are considered also.

A New System of Alternate Current Motors and Transformers

Article Abstract:

The classical paper on a revolutionary alternating-current power system is reprinted. The paper was originally presented at an AIEE meeting on May 16, 1888. The illustrated motor became a common element of home appliances and industrial systems.
