Radio determination satellite service

Article Abstract:

Radio Determination Satellite Service (RDSS) is a geosynchronous satellite-based service over North America that allows a company headquarters to determine the position of its mobile platforms and to send and receive messages. Land transportation, such as trucks, cars, railroads, and marine and airborne personnel can use RDSS because it is position location. Seven functions are provided by RDSS: user positioning, navigational guidance, fleet location to a central dispatch, collision warnings, message traffic to user, message traffic from user, and interconnection to data bases and other communications systems. RDSS systems are in use in North America, Europe, Australia, and adjacent areas.

Customer cost of electric service interruptions

Article Abstract:

Methodologies for the estimation of customer losses from the interruption of electric services are used to assess the worth of reliability in a power system and to support cost-benefit evaluation as part of power system planning. The customer costs are determined as a function of interruption duration and used to develop a composite customer damage function (CCDF). The CCDF function costs require a knowledge of the subsidiary damage functions for a particular service area and the customer composition of the area. Description and comparison of several customer loss estimation methodologies are provided. The use of a customer survey to obtain cost data is extensively described.
