An empirical study of capital budgeting practices for strategic investments in CIM technologies

Article Abstract:

An empirical study is carried out to evaluate the capital budgeting practices of business enterprises with respect to the acquisition of computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) technologies. Mail questionnaires are used to collect data from 42 European companies from different industries for empirical analysis. Results indicate that the investment practices of firms with respect to the acquisition of CIM technologies are influenced not only by the need to reduce cost and improve productivity but by qualitative considerations, such as the technologies' compatibility with company strategy.

Computer supported changes in project management

Article Abstract:

A software prototype was developed to assess the role of computers in change management. A computer supported change management process was found to be beneficial in lessening individual project's non-value adding operations since it provides support to project manager decision during presentation of change requirements. It was also found to be effective in preventing future changes by providing information that can be used by management to direct activity changes.

Strategic FMS design under uncertainty: a fuzzy set theory based model

Article Abstract:

A fuzzy multiple objective programming model for strategic flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) design under uncertainty is developed. Strategic FMS design has three goals, namely, profitability, flexibility and investment risk control which are difficult to define. Fuzzy set theory addresses this difficulty by turning these uncertainties into fuzzy numbers for use in fuzzy programming models.
