Caveat emptor: standards and audits will have value only if organizations being audited - and their customers - demand it

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning third-party audits of quality management systems are discussed. The client of the audit must be in control, ensuring that the external auditor undertakes effective and honest investigations. Third-party audits should only be used to validate that a firm's existing quality system functions as required.
