Companies choose ISO certification for internal benefits

Article Abstract:

Internal quality benefits are the main reason why companies seek certification to ISO 9000, which is an international standard for the quality system of businesses, according to a 1996 survey of US registered companies. The survey shows a large increase from a similar survey in 1993 in the percentage of respondents who cited quality benefits as a primary motivator, from 62.1% in 1993 to 77% in 1996. The percentage of respondents who cited customer requirements increased from 60% in 1993 to only 68.3% in 1996.
