Whither now for Stirling's Albion?

Article Abstract:

The National Trust has traditionally acted to protect the former lands and properties of the UK's wealthiest people, but is now looking to take on a wider role as changes take place in the countryside. The exact nature of its future operations has yet to be decided, and this issue is causing considerable controversy as the organisation celebrates its centenary. It takes its role as protector very seriously, and is prepared to become involved in political debate, according to director-general Sir Angus Stirling.

PC Gallagher of the agency

Article Abstract:

Ed Gallagher has been appointed chief executive of the Environment Agency, which is due to start-up in April 1996. The agency will take responsibility for local waste regulation authorities, the Pollution Inspectorate, and the NRA. Gallagher also plans to introduce incentives for those that operate eco-friendly waste disposal. The Environment Agency is expected to have a budget of 500,000 pounds sterling, and a total of 9,000 employees.

Out of town retail expansion in Brighton had been restricted years before the PPG6, but its status as a regional shopping centre has been affected by a fall in shoppers coming from the edges of its catchment area. It is also affected by expensive parking . However, the dismal Churchil Square piazza is to be demolished and a new covered mall will be built in its place.
