Article Abstract:

Crimping is considered to be the most relable method of making a good electrical connection, being simple and not demanding skill such as soldering does, and producing no fumes or heat damage. Such joints are long lasting and reliable. Connectors and jointing including crimping are being made the subject of European standards. Heat shrink technology is also being applied to electrical jointing, the technique producing excellent thick walled insulation at terminals and joints.

Don't let lighting keep you in the dark

Article Abstract:

Most of the UK's electrical contractors are very well aware of the need to ensure that their work complies with standards such as BS 7671. However, there are still many cases where building control officials demand changes to lighting fixtures in order to meet the conditions of Approved Document L. The main areas of this regulation to be aware of include the need for switches to be accessible and the need to use energy efficient artificial lighting sources.

Dream scheme

Article Abstract:

The development of a scheme of assessment of the competence of electrical contractors started by the Electrical Industry Installation Liaison Committee is described. It is hoped that the scheme will be implemented in 2001.
