Follow this path to pollution prevention

Article Abstract:

A suggested procedure toward an effective pollution prevention program may help chemical process industry firms to determine processes which minimize the amount of waste generated at the source to achieve economic efficiencies, including lower operating costs and less new-capital investments. This methodology can even lead to the achievement of waste reduction of more than 30% on average in existing facilities. It is applicable at all phases of a manufacturing process project and may be applied to both large- and small-scale problems.

Process modeling: the promise of open software architectures

Article Abstract:

The chemical process industries will benefit from the significant growth in the supply of sophisticated modelign software from various sources which include automation system vendors, process-engineering software companies and academic institutions. The various software aim at a narrow- well-defined function such as the computation of physical ppropeprties, the numerical solution of certain types of mathematical problems arising in process simulation or optimizatio and the simulation of a particular unit operation.

Speed your process development

Article Abstract:

Shell Chemical Co has been able to reduce process-development cycle time by outsourcing some of its research and development and manufacturing operations. Before it awards a contract to a toll manufacturing firm, Shell carefully evaluates a number of factors, including the economics of outsourcing, the contract manufacturer and the contract itself. After signing a contract, the company constantly communicate with with its toller to identify focal points for transfer of both technical and commercial information.
