Constructed textiles lead to lightweight stand-up products

Article Abstract:

The development of a lightweight, pliable heat-affected fabric has far reaching implications on designer techniques, according to the inventor of the knitted fibre fabric, Tracy Hunt. The fabric is constructed using a combination of fibres which melt and some which do not melt. The application of heat allows the fabric to be formed into strong but lightweight products, such as lampshades or bags, without the need for cutting fabric and sealing corners. Hunt believes one of the major applications of her fabric could be travel luggage.
