Doing business abroad can be risky

Article Abstract:

American engineers and architects should take notice of a number of things when doing work in foreign countries. They should have proper knowledge on the enforceability of contractual provisions in foreign countries, laws and requirements regarding professional services and tax policies. The prevailing foreign exchange is another area of concern, as well as languages and local customs. To ensure timely payment for their services, architects and engineers could try to negotiate an up-front fee which should be at least 50% of the total fee or the right to stop working on the project if payment is not received in due time.
