Evolution of a technological community: a case study of financial derivatives

Article Abstract:

A technological community model was developed in an attempt to analyse the role played by financial derivatives in improving securities. Results gathered from the analysis provide strong support to Van de Van's theory, which states that resource endowments, proprietary functions and institutional arrangements give way for the creation of new technologies. It was also established that the occurrence of gaps with in communities tend to result in further breakage of other derivative products, thereby inducing massive financial losses among end users.
