Education conference delivers initiatives

Article Abstract:

The Civil Engineering Education Conference held in Denver, CO, in 1995 sought to gather educational initiatives for the further development of civil engineering education. Participants numbered 235, with around 75% being educators and the remaining 25% being practitioners. Four focus topics were discussed, namely, technical competence, communication skills, management concepts and teamwork. Participants agreed on the immediate formulation of an integrated curriculum.

Seminar review: applying technology in project management and product design

Article Abstract:

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Industrial Liaison Program conducted a seminar on how firms have used innovations in design technology to improve their design processes. The first part of the seminar featured Prof Michael J. Piore's lecture on the development of a new design paradigm. It was followed by presentations from organizations such as Boeing Co, Ford Motor Co, Xerox and the MIT Media Lab.
