Filters get down & dirty

Article Abstract:

Filters are now more selective as processors of chemical industries (CPI) also become more demanding and complex. For instance, bag and cartridge filters are now more adept at capturing very small particles that event centrifuges cannot remove. In addition, filters increasingly have the ability to bar the entry of microcontaminants that could only be halted before by ion exchange resins and reverse osmosis membranes. According to Pall Process Filtration Co.'s vice president of marketing, Sean Meenan, performance improvement of filters are made apparent from the demand of processors for systems that have increased dirt-handling capacity and durability as well as lower operating and disposal costs, automated controls and self-cleaning functions.

Setting a trap for steam

Article Abstract:

Several devices for the inspection and detection of leaks in steam traps are presented. TLV Corp has introduced its TrapMan computerized management system which allow users to pinpoint problems in steam traps and to determine whether to repair or replace the trap. Other products are Armstrong International's Trap Valve Stations, Spirax Sarco Engineering's TD52 thermodynamic trap, and Ogontz Corp's Ogontz Pinch thermostatic steam trap.

Screens go down to the wire

Article Abstract:

Several companies are considering new elements in the production of screens and strainers that resist plugging and prevent waste buildup. Screen manufacturers are applying different materials and specifications based on tolerance requirements, filtration levels and particle retention. The market offers wire-mesh screens, wedge-wire screens, perforated metal screens and other products that meet different industry demands.
