Fire guarding

Article Abstract:

The large amount of needed to be carried out to meet legal requirements concerning employee safety in the workplace is an ideal way for electrical contractors to conduct business, opening an avenue for safety precaution suggestions and ultimate installation. The European Union directive concerning fire precautions in the workplace puts the emphasis on employers ensuring proper and adequate measures are taken to protect employees. Firms can face large fines for failing to comply with regulations.

When smoke gets in your eyes

Article Abstract:

The UK's Buildings Research Establishment has evaluated the efficacy of low level wayfinding systems in smoke. The tests covered systems including reflective and fluorescent pictogram signs and high mounted emergency luminaires. The research shows that, in smoke, electrically powered wayfinding systems can provide better guidance to exit doors than traditional high mounted luminaires.

No smoke without fire?

Article Abstract:

Very early smoke detection systems (vesdas) are suitable for locations where early detection is all important. This can apply to highly combustible historic buildings or places with humans or valuables. IEI has sold more than 30,000 systems worldwide. At full scale deflection, normal detectors can detect 0.1-1.0% obscuration per metre.
