Flying in formation ... new document defines aerospace supplier quality

Article Abstract:

A joint committee of aerospace quality executives have prepared a new document outlining a basic, quality-system definition for aerospace suppliers. The document, known as the Aerospace Basic Quality System Standard, is expected to be endorsed by aircraft manufacturers and major aerospace suppliers. The joint committee hopes that the document will be adopted for all military and commercial aircraft made in the US and Canada. The standards are to be administered and enforced by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

PDM software: what's in it for quality pros?

Article Abstract:

Product data management (PDM) programs offer several benefits to quality managers. They thoroughly manage documents, drawings and engineering change orders as well as the use of purchased or internally made components. PDM programs can further monitor productivity and cyclic periods by measuring an organization's release, review, and change processes. Satisfied PDM users include Boeing Commercial Airplane Group and Coherent Technologies.
