Improving biomaterials to rebuild bone

Article Abstract:

Researchers at the Paffenbarger Research Center has started efforts to expand the use of calcium phosphate cement and other bone repair materials. The center, a joint effort by the American Dental Association Health Foundation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, hopes to improve the capabilities of the materials to handle movement and stress. For example, installation time for dental implants will be reduced from several months to several days with the improvements.
