Issues in Fuzzy Production Systems

Article Abstract:

Eight implementations of fuzzy production systems are reviewed. Each is examined for its overall application, the nature of the uncertainty and its representation of the logical implementation operator. The advantages and disadvantages of each system relative to its application are analyzed. The comparative analysis refines the match between the characteristics of the reasoning system and the characteristics of the problem. The eight systems are a sampling of applications of fuzzy logic.

Precise Past-Fuzzy Future

Article Abstract:

Fuzzy set theory and probability theory are shown to be similar logic systems with a common core. Standard uncertainty logic subsumes standard propositional, fuzzy and probability logics. The constraint of truth functionality to uncertainty logic gives fuzzy logic. The constraint of the law of the excluded middle to uncertainty logic gives probability logic. Particular applications indicate the use of each and in what combination.
