LNA quiets mobile satcom receivers

Article Abstract:

Watkins-Johnson Co. has developed a plastic-packaged low-noise amplifier for low-earth-orbit satellite handsets. Designed for single +3.5-VDC voltage-supply operation, the LNA features a noise temperature of 60K at 2.5 GHz, while achieving unconditional stability, 25-dB gain and wide dynamic range. Leveraging a mature 1-micrometer selective-implant GaAs integrated-circuit process, the LNA attains low intermodulation distortion (IMD) for LEO satellite-receiver applications at 2.5 GHz. Housed in a plstic SOIC-8 package, the LNA demonstrates more than 45-dB isolation with good input VSWR, while sustaining low-noise-figure performance.

Approach performs RF detection directly

Article Abstract:

Analog Devices Inc. of Wilmington, MA, introduces the new high-frequency, multi-stage AD8313 logarithmic amplifier, which is capable of assisting over a wide dynamic range direct RF-signal-strength measurement. The new AD8313 logarithmic amplifier, which is appropriate for power-control and RF-measurement functions at frequency levels of up to 2.5 GHz, assists users by facilitating the determination of receivers and transmitters' transmitted signals over a wide dynamic range. Analog Devices equips its new logarithmic amplifier technology with its standard approach for successive detection.
