Measuring for excellence

Article Abstract:

Federal Express Corp., Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., Texas Instruments Inc. Defense Systems and Electronics Group, and Corning Inc. Telecommunications Products Division are the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award winners. The companies demonstrate the importance of effectively measuring themselves. Measurement is necessary for the existence of a balance between what the company aims to achieve and what they measure. Setting goals and measurement of excellence is a continuing process. Clarity of goals and effective communication are responsible for the success of these companies.

The 13th annual QA/QC Software directory of 261 companies is presented in an easy-to-use matrix format. The directory includes the names, addresses, telephone numbers and fax numbers of the companies. In addition, information about the type of software marketed by each company is offered. These types include auditing, benchmarking, calibration, data acquisition, measurement, survey techniques and training.

Construction company given Japan's highest quality honor

Article Abstract:

Maeda Corporation Co. is the twelfth recipient of the Japan Quality Award. The 1995 quality award is for a revised corporate constitution, management planning, and better customer service. The Deming Prize Committee determines the winners for the Japan Quality Award. Organizations qualify for this award five years after receiving the Deming prize. The Maeda company won the Deming Application Prize in 1989.
