Dan Armstrong, a professor of chemistry oat Iowa State University, is using proven chemical methods in separating and quantifying microbes. Armstrong's research could result in new methods for the rapid detection of diseases, assays for analyzing consumer products and for the real-time monitoring of fermentation processes. The separation methods being used by Armstrong and his associates include capillary electrophoresis and chromatography.
