"Millennium bug" to bite small manufacturers, government

Article Abstract:

The US government and several small manufacturing firms are allegedly still way behind addressing the millennium bug problem. A 1997 survey reveals that about 88% of firms with less than 2,000 employees have not yet started on their Y2K recoding projects. Letting go of the problem may risk these firms' competitive and survival chance in this age of globalization. The threat is near and fatal, that US firms should not ignore as resources and expertise for remediation are just around and available.

Manufacturers bank on ISO 14001 draft standard

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers are divided over the issue of certification to the draft international standard (DIS)/ISO 14001 because of the risk of future amendments. Some companies had opted to seek certification from the Bureau Veritas Quality International contending that changes in the standard would be merely minor ones. However, some firms worry over the need for additional costs for reaudit in case changes are made.
