Nanoindentation testing yields new quality data

Article Abstract:

Microhardness and nanohardness testing techniques that use instrumented indentation are gaining popularity in materials research, but are however in need of standardization. The testing technique, in which a diamond indenter traverse a surface to a depth of a few nanometers to a few micrometers, has been discovered to produce new material-surface data on coatings, plating materials and other thin fields. However, researchers have not agreed on a standard method of analyzing and reporting data obtained with submicrometer and nanohardness-testing equipment.

Indentation hardness

Article Abstract:

Frederick Moh instituted the mineral hardness scale or the Mohs scale by choosing 10 minerals and putting them in the order of their ability to scratch another. Indentation hardness can be tested through the Brinell test, the Rockwell testing and the microhardness testing.

Indentation hardness testing

Article Abstract:

J.A. Brinell invented a hardness tester and proposed the Brinell Test method. Brinell Tests are used to test large parts such as forgings, casting or steel plates where indentation size does not pose any problem in relation to the finished product.
