Natural ventilation has its place

Article Abstract:

The proposed changes to the UK's Building Regulations approving passive stack ventilation (PSV) as an alternative to mechanical ventilation in domestic buildings have angered fan makers who argue that the amendment allows for PSV systems to be non-controllable. The fan manufacturers say that the use of uncontrolled PSV systems will result in a 15% rise in energy consumption. Because of the protest, it has been officially recommended that PSV systems should be controllable. Despite this, ventilation equipment makers believe that the installation of PSV systems, based on the concept of the chimney, is a retrograde step.

Warrington the way ahead?

Article Abstract:

Electrical wholesaler, Newey and Eyre has built a regional distribution centre at Warrington, England. The centre supplies 24 branches in the region as well as providing a next-day delivery service to customers. The automated warehouse is popular with suppliers who deliver to one location and enables branch staff to concentrate on sales and customer relations. Branches still stock popular lines and deal with all customer enquiries. Newey and Eyre's regional sales figures have risen, partly due to the effect of the Warrington centre.
