Plastics make a difference in novel designs

Article Abstract:

A common theme among most of the particularly ingenious ideas put forward as potential products at the Royal College of Arts' Work in Progress show in 2005, was the use made of the special properties of plastics and polymers. The show included designs of the 'CanMan' made of polypropylene and consisting of tiles with circular cut outs surrounded by lugs to hold cans, 'Drugbug', a pill container that is child proof but not adult proof, and 'WashAway', a plastic washing bag.

Air pillows are biodegradable

Article Abstract:

A UK company has announced a range of biodegradable and compostable air pillows to safely transport breakable goods. It is observed that biodegradable and compostable polymers packaging would help replace the recycling of used packages and materials.

Plastic parts shine in style

GE Plastics have developed a series of resins which display striking visual effects in commercial products. It is expected that this application of colour to plastics will be useful in many sectors, but particularly in the automotive industry.
