Power & energy

Article Abstract:

The country's electric power sector is expected to become more involved in a concerted worldwide effort aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in 1996. This sector will develop new technologies that will reduce the impact of utility-generated emissions on the environment without affecting the industry's financial stability. In addition, the deregulation of the electricity market will likely lead to significant changes in the industry's operations.

Advanced reactor development rebounding

Article Abstract:

The prospects for the construction of new nuclear reactors between 1998 and 2003 to 2008 are mostly poor. However, despite the fact that existing power sources are being stretched in the wake of conservation efforts being undertaken worldwide, leading nuclear reactor manufacturers have all been developing advanced models under the assumption that over the long term, some large power plants will be replaced with new nuclear generators.
