Prescreen before emissions testing

Article Abstract:

Preliminary data about organic compound emissions from whatever source are frequently required to help chemical engineers either select the best sampling or analytical technique, determine achievable detection limits or select target compounds for analysis. Prescreening sources of organic hazardous air pollution emissions can help engineers determine if full- scale testing is required, identify any safety issues and ensure the selection of the proper testing methods. A suggested matrix table can aid engineers compare costs, practical time requirements, compounds that can be identified, practical quantitation limits and other concerns for six emission screening technologies.

Ensure proper heat treatment of stainless castings

Article Abstract:

Proper heat treatment of stainless steel castings is important to establish corrosion resistance, especially in oxidizing-acid and chloride- containing environments. The combination of high temperature and soak time paves the way for the full dissolution into the surrounding microstructure of any undissolved carbon that may be present from the casting process. To evaluate heat treatment effectiveness, ASTM A262 Practice A, a metallographic inspection, should be used. effectiveness in

Reduce waste and make money

Article Abstract:

Over 50 ideas are presented for preventing pollution while enhancing business performance through reduced variable costs and increased revenue and return on investment. Some of these strategies include a `zero-waste' discharge option on all alternative process evaluations; purchasing purer raw materials, and enhancing reaction kinetics; among others. These ideas may be used in conceptualizing and developing a process or product; designing plants and operating plants.
